The Cape Arago Lighthouse on the Oregon Coast lights up at sunset as seen from Lighthouse Beach. Chief’s Island, where the lighthouse stands, was returned to Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians in 2013.
This is the third iteration of the lighthouse, built in 1934. The first lighthouse in this location was created in 1866 to warn the increased shipping traffic along the west coast.
